A 32 year old Raeford man died after an early morning head-on collision west of Seven Lakes Thursday.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 7:42 am to a serious vehicle accident on NC Highway 211 near the intersection with Mclendon Hills Drive.
The first arriving emergency unit reported heavy damage to both a Chevrolet Malibu passenger car and a tractor trailer.
According to First Sergeant Ellington with the NC State Highway Patrol, the initial investigation appears to show that the passenger car was reported to have been traveling east on NC-211 when it crossed the centerline and struck the tractor trailer operated by Mountaire that was traveling west head-on. Each vehicle was occupied by one person at the time of the accident.
The driver of the tractor trailer refused transport to the hospital and remained at the scene.
The 32 year old driver of the passenger car was declared deceased at the scene of the accident. He was identified by authorities as Micheal Andrew Miller Jr from an East Donaldson Avenue address in Raeford.
NC Highway 211 was closed to traffic in both directions for an extended time period while the debris and large amount of vehicle fluids could be removed from the roadway. NCDOT brought in a load of sand to help absorb the oil and other spilled fluids. The highway was reopened to normal traffic just after 11:30 am.
Responding to the accident were units with Seven Lakes Fire & Rescue, West End Fire & Rescue, Eagle Springs Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, NC State Medical Examiner, NC Department of Transportation, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
The tractor trailer reportedly had a video camera installed in the vehicle. Video from the vehicle is being reviewed by Troopers as a part of the accident investigation which continues as of this report.
