Sheriff Neil Godfrey announced that two Moore County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a shooting this evening in the Carthage area.
At 7:02 pm, Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a domestic call at 176 White Oak Street outside of Carthage. When they arrived, they were confronted by an armed male subject. The suspect pointed his weapon at one deputy and the deputy shot him once in the upper leg area.
The Sheriff’s deputies were not injured and the male suspect was transported from the scene by ambulance to meet a helicopter from Duke Life Flight that landed in a large field on Wadsworth Road to transport the man to a Trauma Center with a gunshot wound to the left thigh.
Following standard practice, Sheriff Godfrey has requested the SBI to conduct the investigation of the shooting incident.
Sheriff’s officials declined to give the name of the suspect or the two deputies involved in the shooting at this time. Further details are expected to be released Saturday.
Responding to this shooting were units with Carthage Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
