One person died and two people were injured in a near head-on collision between a Toyota Camry and an Infinity QX56 south of Pinebluff in the early morning hours Tuesday.

Emergency responders were dispatched just before 3:00 am to a reported vehicle accident at the intersection of US Highway 1 and Addor Road.

The first arriving fire unit reported two vehicles with heavy damage.

According to authorities, one of the drivers suffered serious injuries in the collision, however a helicopter was not available to fly the victim to a Trauma Center. All three injured people were transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Officials stated that 72 year old Evon Anderson Hughes from Southern Pines was determined to be deceased after arriving at the hospital.

One lane of US Highway 1 in the northbound direction was temporarily closed to traffic while the accident was investigated and the wreck debris removed from the roadway.

Responding to the wreck were units with Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, the Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the NC State Highway Patrol.

According to law enforcement official’s alcohol reportedly played a part in this accident and charges are expected to be filed in the near future.
