One person died and a second person was injured following a head-on collision outside of Cameron Monday.
Emergency responders were dispatched just after 5:30 PM to NC Highway 24/27 near the intersection with Glenwood Farms Road east of Cameron for a reported serious vehicle accident.
While units were still enroute to the accident there were reports that one of the accident victims was not breathing and did not have a pulse. This was confirmed by the first arriving emergency unit to reach the scene.
The accident between a Honda Civic passenger car and a Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck pinned the driver of the Honda inside of the car requiring the use of specialized rescue tools to free the 27 year old woman.
The driver of the car who was deceased at the scene of the accident was identified by officials as 27 year old Mary Turner Severin from Angier.
The pickup driver was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with injuries reported as not life-threatening.
According to NC Highway Patrol officials, the 71 year old driver of the pickup truck has been charged with Driving While Impaired. Officials stated a charge of Felony Death By Motor Vehicle is also expected to be added to this case.
Responding to this collision were units with Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
NC Highway 24/27 remained closed to traffic in both directions for more than two hours Monday while the accident was investigated and the vehicles removed from the scene.
