A man was burned, a van destroyed and a home damaged in a fire outside of Vass Sunday night.

Emergency responders were dispatched just before 8:00 pm to an address on Pineland Drive for a reported vehicle fire.

The first arriving fire units reported a van heavily involved in flames with damage to a nearby home and a man with serious burns so the incident was upgraded to a structure fire, with additional fire and EMS units being dispatched.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control not long after arriving on the scene preventing the fire from spreading further into the home.

A helicopter had been called to assist with the burn victim, however due to weather conditions at the time an aircraft was not available so the man was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Responding to the incident were units with Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, Whispering Pines Fire and Rescue, Carthage Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Moore County Sheriffs Department.

The cause of the fire was not known as of this report.
