Two sanitation workers were injured Tuesday when the truck they were riding on backed into a box truck in Pinebluff.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 12:22 pm to a reported accident involving two large trucks on East New England Avenue near the corner of South Apple Street.
According to law enforcement officials the garbage truck was backing down New England Avenue to pick up trash from houses when it struck a box truck that was parked in front of a house.
The two workers on the rear of the garbage truck reportedly realized that the accident was about to happen and were able to take evasive action to help prevent them from receiving serious injuries.
Both men were transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with injuries reported as not life threatening.
The box truck was unoccupied at the time of the accident as it sat parked while workers were installing a HAVC system at a house on New England Avenue.
The injured workers were employed by a private contractor, Roberson Unique, which provides sanitation collection services for the Town of Pinebluff.
Responding to the accident were units with Pinebluff Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Pinebluff Police Department.
