A Toyota pickup truck slid on the ice crossing a bridge and ran off of the roadway and down a steep embankment Tuesday morning in Southern Pines.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 7:28 am to a vehicle that had wrecked on West Pennsylvania Avenue at the bridge that crosses over US Highway 1.
The pickup was traveling westbound on Pennsylvania Avenue when it slid on the ice and ran off of the road running down the embankment before coming to a stop upside down on its rooftop.
The truck’s driver was able to get out of the pickup truck before the arrival of emergency responders and was walking at the scene of the wreck.
Although the accident victim initially refused transport to the hospital, an ambulance was called back to the scene to transport the man to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital for reported non-life threatening injuries a short time later.
Traffic passing through the area at the time of the wreck experienced minor delays due to the emergency vehicles in the roadway.
Responding to the accident were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Southern Pines Police Department.
The accident remained under investigation by the Southern Pines Police Department as of this report.
