Sheriff Neil Godfrey announced the arrest of Stephanie A. Gast for drug charges and obtaining controlled-substances by fraud.
On January 10, 2018, deputies arrested Stephanie Anne Gast of Pinehurst North Carolina for Obtaining Controlled-Substances by Withholding Information from Health Care Providers, Trafficking Opiates and other related drug charges.
During their investigation, deputies discovered that Gast illegally filled 29 different prescriptions from eight different health care providers. These 29 prescriptions provided Gast with: 1,170 dosage units of Hydrocodone, 210 dosage units of Oxycodone, 90 dosage units of Hydromorphone, 30 dosage units of Fentanyl and eight dosage units of Buprenorphine.
Oxycodone, Hydromorphone and Fentanyl are Opioid narcotics and are listed as Schedule II in the North Carolina Controlled Substance Act. Hydrocodone and Buprenorphine are also opioid narcotics and are listed as schedule III.

Gast was charged with: Obtaining a Controlled-Substance by Misrepresentation/Withholding Information from a Health Care Provider, two counts of Trafficking in Opiates and Felony Possession of a Schedule III Controlled-Substance. Gast was placed in the Moore County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond and given a January 23, 2018 District Court Date.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
