One person was airlifted and the roadway was temporarily blocked after a single vehicle accident outside of Whispering Pines Friday.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 4:42 pm to a vehicle that had reportedly rolled over on Niagara Carthage Road near the intersection of Farm Life School Road.
A Toyota 4Runner SUV slid on the ice covered road and overturned striking a pine tree before coming to a stop on the vehicles passenger side.
The first arriving fire units requested a helicopter be dispatched to assist with this accident.
The adult male victim was transported from the scene by ambulance to the Moore County Airport on NC Highway 22 to meet a helicopter from UNC Air Care to airlift the victim to a Trauma Center.
Niagara Carthage Road was blocked in both directions for approximately 30 minutes while the injured man was assisted.
Responding to this accident were units with Whispering Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
This is the second serious storm related accident to occur on Moore County roads this week. Main highways may be clear, however secondary roads remain extremely hazardous. When driving please use caution and drive the appropriate speed for the conditions.
