An elderly woman was airlifted after a single vehicle accident between Robbins and Carthage Monday afternoon.
Emergency responders were dispatched just after 2:00 pm to a vehicle overturned on Plank Road near Lakey Siding Road.
Fire and EMS units arrived to find a Ford Escape on its roof off of the roadway. According to emergency officials, the 80 year old victim was transported from the scene by ambulance to Milliken Park in Robbins to meet a helicopter to be airlifted to a Trauma Center. The woman was reportedly the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
One lane of Plank Road was closed to traffic for a brief time period requiring minor delays for drivers passing through the area at the time of the accident.
Responding to this incident were units with Robbins Fire & Rescue, Highfalls Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the NC State Highway Patrol. Burgess Towing Service responded to remove the vehicle from the scene.
The cause of the accident was under investigation as of this report.
