The following is an overview of the activity of the Moore County Sheriff’s Department operations for the month of October.

During the month of October Patrol Deputies averaged ten minutes and forty four seconds while responding to 3,476 calls for service. They served 411 civil and 107 criminal papers which included 11 domestic violence orders, made 81 arrests, conducted 1,112 business checks and transported four mental patients. Deputies issued 114 traffic citations; 11 citations for driving with a revoked license and 46 for speeding in excess of 15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. Volunteers contributed 249 hours during the month of October.

Sheriff’s Response Team conducted a total of 13 traffic stops and five checking stations resulting in 28 citations, one felony and one misdemeanor drug charge. They conducted 205 sex offender checks resulting in four sex offender registration violations, executed one search warrant and conducted one Governor’s Highway Safety Program DWI check point.

Animal Services admitted 89 dogs and 119 cats, returned eight dogs to their owners, facilitated the adoption of 56 dogs and 68 cats and conducted 38 field and 110 shelter rabies vaccinations. Deputies investigated 28 animal bites and responded to 160 stray-animal calls.

Detectives arrested 25 suspects totaling 48 felony and 15 misdemeanor charges, opened 90 investigations and recovered $115,883.00 in stolen property. Arrests included: 15 for Breaking and Entering/Larceny, one for the Sexual Assault of a Child, one for Weapons Violations, three for Fraud, two for Drug Violations, one on a Probation Violation and two on misdemeanor charges.

The Narcotics Division opened 23 investigations and arrested 19 suspects on a total of 58 drug and alcohol violations; two suspects were arrested for doctor shopping/prescription fraud. Narcotic Deputies seized: 28 grams of marijuana, 227 marijuana plants, 20 dosage units of prescription pills, six grams of cocaine, six dosage units of crack-cocaine, 854 grams of methamphetamine, eight bindles of Heroin and one firearm; the estimated street value of all drugs seized was approximately $1,694,000. Additionally, Deputies conducted 92 ABC store security checks, 16 ABC premise-outlets inspected and visited 89 additional ABC premise-outlets.

The Sheriff’s Office registered four new sex offenders, transferred one out of the county, updated the status of 22 offenders and is monitoring a total of 122 Moore County registered sex offenders.

In October, the Department issued 222 pistol purchase permits, 73 new conceal-to-carry permits and renewed 83; totaling 7,656 Moore County citizens with conceal-to-carry permits.
