Celand George Day, 87, a long time Moore County resident, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 25th.
A funeral service was held Saturday, October 28 at Beulah Hill Baptist Church in West End.
Born in NY on February 19, 1930, he was the son of the late George and Verna Day. Celand served his country in the United States Marine Corps, and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves. It was during his time at Camp Lejeune that he met and married Barbara Jenkins from Sneads Ferry. In the late 1960’s he moved his family to Southern Pines. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, Southern gospel music and spending time with his family.
Celand is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara Day; his children Patty Lunday (Rod) of Carthage, Sherry Mack (Tom) of Lake Murray, SC, Cindy McKenzie (Johnny) of Pinehurst and Jonathan Day (Jenny) of Alamance County, his sister, Eileen Gillespie of Charlotte; 14 grandchildren: Keith, Karen, Kevin, Lindsey, Brandon, Kelly, Daniel, Jordan, Casey, Jacob, Colby, Mackenzie, Caleb and Andrew; four great – grandchildren: Cohen, Cameron, Louisa and Maddox. The family is grateful for Larry Covington, Celand’s faithful and loving caregiver for the past four years.
