Midland Road Wreck

A Southern Pines woman died in a single vehicle accident Thursday morning between Southern Pines and Pinehurst.

Emergency responders were paged out at 7:20 am to a report of a vehicle that had struck a tree on Midland Road near the area of North Knoll Road.

After being freed from the vehicle the woman was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst where she died shortly after arriving.

Officials have identified the victim as 60 year Cynthia May Alexander from a Fairway Drive address in Southern Pines.

Alexander had reportedly just gotten off of work at the hospital in Pinehurst and was driving home at the time of the accident.

Responding to this incident were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Pinehurst Fire Department, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Southern Pines Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the NC State Highway Patrol.

This is the third fatal wreck in Moore County over the last two weeks.
