One person was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident Thursday morning between Southern Pines and Pinehurst.
Emergency responders were paged out at 7:20 am to a reported vehicle that had struck a tree on Midland Road near the area of North Knoll Road.
The first arriving fire unit reported a Toyota Camry passenger car with heavy damage and the driver pinned inside of the vehicle.
Firefighters had to use several specialized hydraulic powered rescue tools to cut the 60 year old female driver from the car.
The scene commander called and requested a helicopter be dispatched for this accident however due to the weather conditions early this morning there was not an aircraft available. The victim was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Both lanes of Midland Road going towards Pinehurst and one lane coming from Pinehurst were closed to traffic while firefighters worked to free the injured woman.
Responding to this incident were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Pinehurst Fire Department, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Southern Pines Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the NC State Highway Patrol.
UPDATE: The victim in this accident passed away shortly after arriving at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst this morning.
