A heavy downpour of rain combined with intense wind gust swept across Moore County Sunday afternoon between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm keeping emergency responders busy with a variety of emergency calls from fire alarms to downed trees and power outages.
Fire and law enforcement units were called out to Burger King on US Highway 1 in Aberdeen after a large tree was blown over onto a Dodge minivan parked in the lot. Fortunately there was not anyone in the vehicle at the time the tree fell and no one was injured.
A short distance down the road a tree fell across the back of a house collapsing a garage and coming to rest on top of a car. This incident happened at a home located at 300 John McQueen Road in Forest Hills. The resident of the house was home at the time however no injuries were reported.
In addition to the reports of downed trees emergency responders were inundated with a number of fire alarm calls and reports of power outages across southern Moore County.
At one point power was reported to be out for an extended time period down US Highway 1 through Aberdeen extending into Pinebluff and up NC Highway 5 into Pinehurst including highway stoplights.
