Jean Frances Lennox Keating, 83 of Southern Pines, passed away on June 26, 2017 at the Coventry, Southern Pines.

Born on February 14, 1934 in Rochester, New York to the late William and Lois Lennox. Jean was a 1952 graduate of Columbia School. She attended Green Mountain Jr. and the University of Vermont. She worked for many years in retail and was heavily involved in volunteering. She volunteered for Planned Parenthood, Heinrich Chapter YWCA and Tree Top Twig Buyer for General Hospital, all in Rochester. She continued her volunteering in North Carolina as the Rummage Sale Chairperson for Chapel of the Pines and at the Episcopal Church Thrift Shop. Jean was also very active in Elderhostel programs and had attended over 30 around the country.

Jean enjoyed golf and playing bridge but was especially interested in travel. Along with her husband, Ken, she traveled to 47 states and 6 continents.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by one great grandson, Jack James Heiligman.

Mrs. Keating is survived by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth Jay Keating; two sons, Kenneth Keating, Jr. (Priscilla) and Robert Keating (Toni); one daughter, Sharon Heiligman (Daniel); one brother, William Lennox; two sisters, Ann Olson and Sue Millard; also survived by eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

No services planned at this time to honor Jean’s wishes.
