West End — Starting Thursday, June 29, the N.C. Department of Transportation will permanently close Mode Road at the railroad, near Knox Lane, in West End in Moore County.
The permanent closure is part of the Department of Transportation’s goal to reduce at-grade railroad crossings to improve traffic safety and make railroads more secure.
Workers with DOT’s Division 8 will remove the asphalt between the tracks on Mode Road and Knox Lane, and replace it with grass.
With the change, Mode Road will become a dead end. A contractor will install a guardrail marking the dead end. The project will take a few days to complete.
Knox Road will be unaffected by the project.
