Today, I am excited to announce that I am a candidate for the 2018 race for Sheriff of Moore County.

I am a native of Moore County, born and raised in Carthage, with over 30 years of law enforcement experience seasoned with deep knowledge of state and local government. I have dedicated most of my adult life to public service. I started out as a volunteer with the Carthage Rescue Squad from 1976 to 1987. I proudly served as a Deputy with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office from 1983 to 1987 when I left to join the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. I wore the uniform of a State Trooper from 1987 until 2009 when I returned to my roots at the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. I did my best to provide safety and security to the citizens of Moore County until my retirement in 2013. I retired at the rank of Major.

I was elected to the Carthage town board in 1999 where I served for 8 years. From 2007 until 2009, I was honored to be the Mayor of my hometown. I am a past president of the Moore County Law Enforcement Officers Association and currently still a member of this fine organization. I am the son of the late Walter I. Fields and Pauline T. Fields of Carthage. I am married to Renee D. Fields, father of three, grandfather of four. My family and I are members of Community Friends Church in Carthage. I am a member of the Moore County Republican Men’s club and past precinct chair of the Carthage precinct of the Republican Party. I am a graduate of Union Pines High School and hold the North Carolina Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and have many hours of law enforcement and management training.

I want to be the Sheriff of Moore County in order to serve and protect our citizens with dedicated, professional, and highly qualified officers. I will demand that our Deputies serve at the highest level armed with moral and ethical traits that qualify them to be your keepers of the peace. I want to surround myself as your Sheriff with a qualified, experienced command staff to insure that we work together as a team to make the Moore County Sheriff’s office the very best in the state. I will be a Sheriff that will work hard for the citizens of Moore County to rid our county of drugs. I will work with our local, state, and federal agencies to form a drug task force. I will work with citizens to educate them on drug awareness. I will promote community watch programs and place heavy emphasis on community policing in an effort to involve all of Moore County’s citizens. This is only a small part of the things that I would do as your Sheriff.

I am honored to have the endorsements of two of Moore County’s most decorated law enforcement professionals, Retired Sheriff Frank Johnson and Retired Sheriff Lane Carter. Please join our team, “Fields for Sheriff in 2018!” Together, we can make a difference and the Sheriff’s Office will stand strong once again!
