A vehicle that had been left with it’s engine reportedly running was stolen from a store parking lot in Aberdeen overnight.

Police were called to the Lucky Star store on the corner of US Highway 1 and NC Highway 5 at 02:41 am to reports that a vehicle had been stolen.

According to police officials a red Subaru Outback backed into a parking spot in front of the store. The passenger in the Outback was reported to have gotten out of the vehicle and gotten into a black 2016 Jeep Compass that had its engine running in the parking lot without any occupants inside at the time.

Law enforcement stated that the red Subaru Outback used in the theft of the Jeep Compass tonight was stolen from the High Point area on March 7th. The license plate for this vehicle is North Carolina tag number FDS-3631.

The two suspects involved in tonight’s incident were described as black males. Further descriptions on clothing, hair or other details will be provided as they become available from law enforcement.

The two vehicles were last believed to be traveling in a southbound direction on US Highway 1. Law enforcement has issued a “Be On The Lookout” for both vehicles with law enforcement across the region.

In an update to this story the red Subaru Outback that had been stolen from the High Point area on March 7th was recovered Thursday by law enforcement in the Berkley community in Aberdeen. According to Aberdeen Police Chief Carl Colasacco a local juvenile has been taken into custody who is possibly believed to be related to this case.

The stolen black in color Jeep Compass remains missing at this time and is still actively being sought by law enforcement. When last seen the vehicle had a paper North Carolina 30 day license tag.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
