One man died and two other people were injured after a three-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon in Carthage.
Emergency responders were dispatched to a reported vehicle accident around 2:15 pm on US Highway 15-501 in front of Speer Concrete that involved three vehicles.
Shortly after arriving the first fire unit reported one person was deceased at the scene of the accident involving an SUV and two passenger cars.
According to officials two people were injured in the accident and were transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with injuries reported as not life-threatening.
Law enforcement officials confirmed to our reporters that there was an adult male victim who was killed in the accident. The victim was identified by authorities as 67 year old Thomas Wayne Johnson from Sanford.
US Highway 15-501 was totally blocked to traffic in both directions at the Vass-Carthage Road exit for an extended amount of time while the injured were assisted and the accident investigated. Traffic was rerouted past the accident scene using the on and off ramps for Vass-Carthage Road. US Highway 15-501 reopened to normal traffic just after 4:30 pm.
Responding to this accident were units with Carthage Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, NC State Highway Patrol, and the Carthage Police Department.
The accident remained under investigation by the Carthage Police Department as of this report.
